Let me guess, you’ve got a “back thing”. Or maybe it’s your hips. Shoulders? Yeah, us too. 

When you were younger, you bounced back quickly – tension in your body didn’t last long. But the older you get, the more frequently you feel it and harder it seems to recover. At first, it’s just an annoying setback. But before long, you become less able to enjoy the things you used to. Maybe you stop altogether because the discomfort isn’t worth it.

To alleviate persistent tension, you may have tried different forms of manual therapy. These can help, but they can also be challenging to maintain over time – especially if it feels like they’re missing the mark. So maybe you’ve invented your own creative solutions. They might feel good for a while, but inevitably the tension returns and you’re back where you started.

Manual therapy isn’t your only option 

Don’t get us wrong, manual therapy often plays an important role in treating tension, pain and discomfort in your body. Especially when you experience an acute physical issue or injury, such treatments can be essential to help improve your condition and aid in your recovery.

But when it comes to “everyday” tension or discomfort, it can sometimes be challenging for manual therapy to provide solutions that create lasting improvement. In some instances, manual therapy focusses on treating an immediate issue without effectively addressing the underlying factors that caused it. Sometimes good practitioners work holistically, but they don’t understand how to help train your body outside of the session. And sometimes, you just don’t really need professional intervention – but you do need to change how your body is moving.

For these reasons, treatment can struggle to help you change the everyday behaviours that put you in a tight spot in the first place. But you don’t have to learn to live with a reduced version of yourself. There’s another way to fix pain points, improve how you move, and feel better in your body.
